OOKAMI GOLD® - Scissors Sharpening System
Sharpening Japanese Style Convex "Hamaguri-Ba" Shears
After taking the shears apart sharpen both blades on the 800 grit diamond wheel. It only takes a few light passes to create a burr. No heat is created using this wheel because the resin bonded diamonds cut, all other wheels grind. The exact angle is held by the scissors clamp.
Honing the Inside of the Blade
Hone the inside of the blades using the OOKAMI GOLD® honing blocks. This honing process removed the burr from the blades and creates a lined inside edge "Haura-Ichban" which strengthens the cutting edge. The OOKAMI GOLD® honing block is a two step process, de-burring and finishing. This process makes the shears silky smooth and quiet.
Polishing the Shears
Put a slight bit of polishing compound on the wheel and polish the blades back to a mirror finish. Increasing the angle of the clamp during polishing will convex "Hamaguri-Ba" (round) the bade back to the original shape.
Testing the Shears
Assemble the shears and cut the burr off. Polish both blades of the assembled shears again. Test the shears by cutting hair, the hair should cut cleanly without sliding or folding over. If you do not have hair to test, cut one layer of tissue, it should cut cleanly all the way to the tip without grabbing the tissue.
